Dear God, where do I begin?! Oh yeah, I know where, the 5 min. wait on hold only to be treated like booking my appointment was a bother. When a customer calls and tells you what days and times are good why in the heck would you ask if any other days or times are ok? Then I ask where do I park for my appointment and I'm promptly told there are meters, a side road, and basically a back alley behind a church ( now that's classy). So, I get there after 5 minutes of driving around the block a few times and let me tell you walking through the door was just fantastic. Just walk in with your head down unless you want to see every one of the stylists who work in the front give you the stare down. I go to the desk to check in and was taken over to the sitting area where I got to listen to another customer on her cell phone. I had to ask a passing employee where the restrooms are. Which I have to say, unless you want to hear who's sleeping with who through the thin walls use the restroom in the massage area. So I get to the stylist where I get a hair pulling massage in the chair and no massage in the shampoo chair. Nevermind I think the same cape was put on me from the last person. I tell my stylist I want a basic simple cut with no texturizing and what do I get??!! A high maintanence style with short pieces because of the texturizing. I should mention that I LOVED the all the talk about all the sylists personal lives because I should really should care about what they all were doing this past weekend. So I went to the restroom to give it a go through (this is where I found the other one) and I get to the front to pay where I find products waiting for me. I didn't ask for them to be put there. They were there like I was obligated to buy them in which I didn't. I reluctantly paid for my service and walked the 2 block trek back to my car.
Pros: They carry Aveda but so do 7 other places close by
Cons: parking, staff, prices( wasn't told the price the stylist charges)

Let's cut to the chase...They turned my hair green! My hair is naturally brown. I asked for an all over color of a slightly darker brown to liven things up a bit. It looked ok until I got into natural light! It was very obviously tinted green! The people were pretentious and NOT friendly. I will never return to Square One again. Way too expensive for the quality.
Pros: Looks nice
Cons: unfriendly, pretentious staff, parking, too expensive, not a quality salon

This salon is staffed with very knowledgeable people. The service is great, the products are great, and the stylists will give you great styling ideas for your new cut. The massages here are top of the line too! The hot stone massages are definitely worth the money, very relaxing! They also have a Centerville, OH branch that is every bit as good. Highly recommended!
Pros: Great service and talented staff in all areas
Cons: Can be a bit busy at times (but at least they have two locations now!)

Square One has been named one of the top 200 salons for 5 years in a row....now I know why! The place is absolutely awesome. I will return over and over. I had read the reviews from citysearch and agreed with all but one! My service was done timely and well. My hair color was exactly the blonde I was looking for! I am stoked to tell the world. Square One is it!! Off the chain!! Oh, as for parking...you are in city, so expect th urban sophisticated issues to be part of the fun!
Pros: service is impeccable
Cons: can be a bit too busy

After hearing the buzz about this salon, I decided to check it out. When I called to make my appointment, I was left on hold for about 5 minutes before they got back on the phone to ask me to hold again. I explained what I wanted and that I had never been there before, and asked his opinion of who should I see. The only thing he could say was "all of our stylists are good". I thought well I would hope so for the money im about to spend there. When I arrived 5 min late due to driving around the block 4 times to FINALLY get 1 of the 5 meters out front, I was treated like I was 50 min late and inconveniencing everyone that worked there. My stylist consulted with me for maybe 2 minutes before deciding that my ideas were wrong and "ugly" then SHE told ME what I liked and walked off before I could even give an OK. She talked about herself the entire time only stopping to chat with the stylist next to her about lunch. I waited with foils in my hair for 55 minutes while she was doing a different client, and she never checked on me. She then gave me a totally new cut and styled it with my side facing the mirror not giving me a clue on how to style it. overall it was a bad experience, it may be pretty (other than the floors having years worth of caked gunk) and they carry great products, but I wasn't comfortable or happy.
Pros: trendy
Cons: snooty and uncomfortable atmosphere

This place has amazing customer service. My stylist sent me a handwritten note to thank me for my business & also everytime i get something new with my color she calls to see how it is working out for me. If you are looking for salon that has great customer service, a well educated stylish staff go to square one in downtown dayton.

I had an consultation, as a first time customer to get a $400 salon service. I waited, after being checked in, for 30 minutes. The stylist never came to get me from the waiting area. On one came to check to make sure, I had been seen by the stylist either. I had waited a total of 45 minutes past my end time for you consultation. I never got a follow -up call, to see if I the management could help me. It was an awful experience.

the staff at Square One make you feel at home and are the most spirited and loving people I have met. I give them a 15 on a 1-10 scale!
Pros: friendly, beautiful atomosphere, trend setting
